“Lilacs & Laughter” - Delightful Old World charm with all the modern conveniences!  Surrounded by an English garden with stone walkways, geranium filled window boxes, and a custom fence/gate with trellis arch (not to mention the wave roof with arched elements), this 2 bedroom (king, king), 2 bath Carmel-by-the-Sea home is right out of a story book!  From the front covered porch, enter in to the quaint living room with wood floors, high open beam ceilings with custom woodworking and wrap-around book shelf, gas log brick fireplace, plenty of seating (including a window seat that’s perfect for reading one of the many books available and a breakfast table with seating for 2), and a TV with DVD player.  One bedroom is off the living room with wood floors, king bed, walk in closet, and en suite bathroom with pedestal sink, tub/shower combination, and tile floors with a floral motif.  Kitchen and dining area are off the living room at the back of the home with a balcony deck looking out over the back yard and garden area. Dining table seats 4. Kitchen is modern and fully equipped with a 4-burner Wolf range (with griddle), Bosch dishwasher, cobblestone floors, and Saltillo tile counter tops.  Stacked washer/dryer is located in a closet off the dining area.  Second bedroom is upstairs and is accessed by a flight of outside wooden stairs (no interior entrance).  Listen to the ocean and enjoy the filtered ocean views from this upstairs bedroom with white washed walls, a king bed, bookshelves, separate wall heater, and en suite bathroom with single sink and tiled shower stall.  Ample parking on long paver driveway for at least 2 – 3 cars.  Garage is available for storage of bikes, etc.  Wi-Fi.  NO PETS.  NO SMOKING.  30 NIGHT MINIMUM.  PROPERTY CODE:  HUAN2

  We've rented Lilacs & Laughter for many years now. We love this charming, cozy, and very comfortable house. We're two people, and don't use the room upstairs, but it looks very inviting. Also, it should be noted that the place is extremely quiet, especially at night. San Carlos has always been very professional as well as welcoming. They continue to make the renting process easy and efficient. We look forward to returning.

  Quintessential Carmel, very quaint cottage. Even though others panned the antique Wolf range, once you figure it out it works splendidly, and I would keep it too! Loved the griddle. For people who love to cook and make cocktails there are a few pieces of equipment it could use however. Wooden cooking spoon, (not salad server) flexible spatula, citrus juicer, shot glass, and cocktail shaker are a few of the things it could use. Ice maker outstanding. Luxury bedding was truly wonderful. Upstairs bedroom an oasis. TV took a long time to figure out- was there anything in the way of streaming services available to us? We still aren't sure, other than Peacock. We had a great time and can absolutely recommend this rental.

  We had a great time in Carmel in February 2021. The first part of the month was chilly, but the weather gradually improved. The house was in a terrific location, close to the ocean, and to restaurants and shops. The house is very quaint, a very convincing replica of the Comstock style. The kitchen was well-equipped, with modern appliances except for the gas cooktop and oven. The oven is a classic, and it would be very helpful if operating instructions were provided as the original control labeling has worn off. The upstairs, detached bedroom is delightful, very light and cheery; the curtains need to replaced as this room receives a lot of sun. The pooled curtains, both upstairs and downstairs, are problematical as they collect a lot of dust bunnies. The vacuum cleaner should have been emptied before our overall; it was overflowing with dust and other debris. The property management company was very responsive to our questions and requests. We would be very happy to stay at this property again!

  Lilacs and Laughter is a charming cottage perfectly situated for walks to the beach to see sunsets or for going into town; it's about 4 blocks in either direction. The neighborhood is extremely quiet. San Carlos Agency staff were very pleasant and responsive about any issues that arose. Natalie Pitschke in particular is a gem; thanks for everything, Natalie!

  What a location! Just what I asked for!!! This lovely home is 4 blocks from town and 4 blocks to the ocean. I loved walking on direction or other and getting to see and experience much of Carmel. It was nice to have the apartment above-did have some friends stay for one night.
  
  It is probably time for a good thorough cleaning. There was much dust acculated on the curtains. I took down sheers in bedroom and washed-but then decide I liked the window more open for better light coming in. The same with the balloon curtains in the kitchen-real dusty-so I took those down and added some new one I bought-which I left with the property.
  
  Several small appliances did not work-the toaster-the blender. There were problems wit the GFI working-I know the cleaning ladies do not check these things and certainly would have been nice of guest prior to me to report these t management.
  
  I know the owners are coming next and will check these things.
